Main Challenges We Faced

Business Challenge 1: Building Public Trust for a Strategic Energy Project

Energy Dome required a realistic and reliable visualization for its project with Alliant Energy in Wisconsin.
The visuals needed to support public communication and planning processes, while accurately representing the real site and infrastructure.

Technical Challenge 1: Precise GPS Alignment and Camera Matching

The key technical difficulty was integrating the 3D structure into real site photography with precise GPS alignment and accurate camera positioning, ensuring correct scale, terrain match, and perspective.

Delivery Challenge 1: High Responsibility with Tight Timelines

The project required close coordination with engineering teams, multiple validation rounds, and delivery of planning-grade visuals within strict timelines.

What we did

Solution 1: Development of a High-Precision 3D Model of the Entire Storage System

We developed a high-precision 3D model of the complete long-duration energy storage facility, including the massive CO₂ dome — the core element of the system.
In addition to the dome, we modeled all major technical components:
◢ TES (Thermal Energy Storage) modules
◢ Turbine unit
◢ Compressor systems
◢ Process tanks
◢ Supporting infrastructure
The modeling was based on engineering documentation with strict adherence to dimensions, elevations, distances, and structural specifications. Special attention was given to the real-world scale of the facility and its accurate relationship to the surrounding infrastructure.

Solution 2: Verified Integration into the Real Site

The completed technical model was integrated into real site photography with precise GPS alignment.
We accurately replicated:
◢ The real camera position
◢ Perspective and horizon line
◢ Site topography
◢ Scale relative to existing buildings and infrastructure
Multiple validation stages ensured that the visualization complied with engineering parameters and was suitable for public presentations and planning approvals.

Solution 3: Environmental Adaptation, Rendering, and Post-Production

The model was carefully adapted to the existing environment, taking into account lighting conditions, atmospheric effects, and material physics.
This included:
◢ Lighting adjustments based on real weather conditions
◢ Accurate integration of shadows and reflections
◢ Material calibration to match the surrounding context
The final stage involved physically accurate rendering and professional post-production, including color balancing, atmospheric enhancement, and environmental detailing.
The result was a photorealistic, technically reliable visualization ready for public use.

Key Results and Business Value

◢ #1: Supported public and stakeholder communication of the Columbia Energy Storage project.
